I am a minimalist at heart, however, I love to add a little “statement” to my minimal style. A fancy bag, some trendy shoes or a lot of statement jewelry; anything to heighten my minimal fashion look. This fall fashion cycle doesn’t disappoint. While wearing my classic minimal “uniform” I get to experiment with the latest trends that are hitting the runway. With my brown and green color palette, I can add a leopard coat or shoes, a trendy wool hat and a statement necklace. With my black dress, I can add some stylish trouser socks and some rockin’ killer platform shoes. I am so excited about experimenting with the latest trends this winter.
If you want to become a minimalist and make an investment in your wardrobe instead of succumbing to every trend and fashion whim that is created by designers each season, here is how you start:
1. Always have these colors in your wardrobe: black, white, grey, beige, brown, and navy blue.
2. Buy a lot of separates so that you can mix and match.
3. Buy clothes with clean lines, not that much frill and complexity to them
4. Look for statement pieces. They may cost more but they will pay off in the long run.
If you do this, you will only have to buy key trendy items each year to look fashion forward. Just the other day I literally went shopping in my closet…I looked for things I had stored away because they were not in style anymore; but they were classic items that I paid a pretty penny for. Once I was done searching through my collection, I found, 2 capes, 2 pairs of wide leg jeans and 3 A-lined skirts (60’s trend). I would never throw these pieces away because I know that fashion always repeats and because they good quality pieces can be preserved for a long time. In fact, I have had them for over 8 years now.
So if you are look for classic style and a way to get more bang for your buck…Minimalism is the answer! Happing hunting!
